We have designed and built this website to be accessible and inclusive for as many people as possible, and we strive for continuous improvements.

Whilst we appreciate that it is not possible to create a website that is accessible to absolutely everyone, we have included accessibility checks into our design and build processes to ensure it conforms to the latest accessibility guideline requirements.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

This website conforms with WCAG 2.1 level A and conforms partially with level AA.

Accessibility features

Text size

You can vary the text size by using your browser’s text resize option: View – Text Size.

Heading elements

HTML heading elements have been implemented to represent page structure, supporting assistive technologies that allow page navigation from heading to heading.

Colour contrast

We have checked text and background colour combinations to ensure that the contrast is sufficient, and we have also ensured that information is not referenced by colour alone.

Style sheets

We have used Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control the presentation of pages and have used properly structured mark-up for content. If style sheets are not supported or are turned off, information on the site can still be accessed and read.

Videos

Where video is used, we use Vimeo Pro to share film content on our website. Vimeo automatically transcribes the dialogue and makes closed captioning available to all viewers. How to turn on captions while viewing films.

Images

Alternative text has been provided for images.

On most of this site you can use the accessibility features on your computer or install assistive technology to:

  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard

Accessibility limitations

Please bear with us as we know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible, but we are working on it:

  • the text may not reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window
  • you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
  • most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • some of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard

PDF document content is often generated by third-party software and may not always meet accessibility standards.

Most video content has captions or a transcript, but currently we can’t provide audio description for videos.
